A Winter Walk Through the Sculpture Park

We got a fresh, heavy snowfall on March 12, 2005, and the sky that followed was a perfect, deep blue. It was cold, but the sun was brilliant, making it a good day for a walk through the local sculpture park.

The snow transformed the grounds, covering every surface and changing the way the art interacted with the landscape. The collection of green statues outside the glass conservatory looked like they were wearing white hats and shawls. Other sculptures were almost completely enveloped, their shapes simplified by the thick blanket of snow.

Out in an open field, a large, dark horse sculpture stood out against the vast expanse of white. It was incredibly still and quiet. We also walked past a log cabin and a wooden playground, both deserted and silent under the snow. It was a completely different experience than visiting in the summer.

The snow muffled all sound, and it felt like we had the park almost to ourselves. It was a simple and quiet way to spend a Saturday, just observing how the winter weather had redecorated the entire place.
