Wreck-It Ralph Birthday in the Backyard
Birthday party in the backyard this year, Wreck-It Ralph themed — or more precisely Sugar Rush themed, since that's the part of the movie the kids actually care about. Weeks of crepe paper paid off: streamers strung from the tree across to the fence, fabric bunting, and a whole tray of cupcakes with paper rosette toppers, one racer per cupcake. Vanellope von Schweetz got the big sign behind the dessert table, as she should.
The cupcakes were pink and mint green frosting with sprinkles, arranged on tiers in a box wrapped in Sugar Rush track printouts. Alongside all the candy-colored stuff we kept the actual food sensible — chips and salsa, baby carrots, watermelon, a jar of marshmallows that didn't stand a chance.
Hot and bright out, plastic chairs stacked and scattered, the drink tub full of water bottles under the tree. The toppers started tipping over in the frosting before anyone even sat down to eat, which nobody minded but me.
