An Afternoon with Ceramics and Textiles in the Bay Area
Spent a Saturday afternoon in mid-September exploring a local gallery. The space was quiet and had a nice variety of work, mostly focusing on craft-based media. I found myself drawn to a series of ceramic wall pieces with earthy glazes and deeply textured surfaces depicting abstracted landscapes.
There were also several large, modern quilts on display. Their use of color and pattern was impressive, with long vertical strips creating a sense of height and movement. One quilt used a more muted palette of greens, browns, and whites, while another was a vibrant explosion of green and yellow patterns.
The gallery also had an extensive collection of pottery. Multiple large glass cases were filled with dozens of vases, bowls, and sculptural forms, showcasing a wide range of styles, shapes, and glazing techniques. It was a lot to take in, but interesting to see the breadth of work all in one place. A quiet, contemplative way to spend an afternoon.
