Into the city for an October playoff game — NLDS, Giants against the Cubs at AT&T Park. Our seats were way up in the view level behind home plate, near the top of the stairs, which meant a climb but also the whole bay laid out behind the scoreboard: sailboat masts off toward McCovey Cove, a couple of ships sitting out on the water.

Mostly orange and black around us, with the occasional Cubs jersey mixed in and not getting much sympathy. The place was packed to the outfield arcade.

First pitch was still in daylight. By the middle innings the towers had their lights on and the East Bay hills had gone pink behind the Coke bottle. Playoff baseball with the bay right there — hard to beat the setting, whatever the seats cost.
