Easter at home in Walnut Creek, and the girls came out in the bunny ears first thing, baskets in hand — one green wire-handled, one pink — flip-flops on for the hunt out front. The younger one's skirt matched her basket almost exactly, which I don't think was planned.

Inside, egg dyeing at the kitchen table under the Happy Easter banner with the paper carrots strung along the vent hood. The eggs came out mostly green. There was a fair amount of holding them up and showing them off before they went back in the carton, and at one point the whole thing turned into some kind of standoff over who had the best one.

A Peep the size of a pillow ended up in the bedroom with a ribbon around its neck. By afternoon it was pajamas and the phone, candy wrappers in the blankets.
