An Unexpected Sunset Rainbow At Home
It was a pretty standard week at home in late February. The weather had been a mix of sun and passing rain showers, which is typical for this time of year. On one of these evenings, the clouds started to break right as the sun was going down, creating this incredibly intense, golden light over the hills.
I was just watching from my window when the sky completely changed. The gold turned to a wild mix of orange and pink, and then a rainbow appeared. It wasn't a full arc, but a vivid column of color that seemed to drop right out of the clouds and onto the houses in the valley below.
For the next several minutes, the colors just kept getting deeper and more saturated. The sky was shifting from pink to purple, and the rainbow stood out against the dramatic backdrop. It was one of those moments that unfolds so quickly you just try to capture what you can.
The whole thing was over in less than fifteen minutes, leaving just the afterglow above the dark hills and the highway lights starting to come on. A pretty remarkable end to an otherwise ordinary day.
