Clear Skies and Campfires: A Few Days Home in Tahoe
A quiet stretch of days at the beginning of August. The weather was consistent: clear, intensely blue skies from morning until evening. We spent some time walking through the forest, where the old-growth trees have this bright green moss growing all over their bark, lit up by the sun.
The lake was the main event on one of the afternoons. We took the boat out on the water, which was incredibly clear and calm. You could see the mountains ringing the basin perfectly from that vantage point. It was just good to be floating out there under the big sky.
Our campsite was the base for everything. We set up the trailer and had the fire pit going in the evenings. Cooking outside is always a nice change of pace. One night's dinner was steak and roasted vegetables with some blue cheese, all done in the cast iron skillet on the little camp stove. It was simple, but exactly what you want after a day outdoors. Just a few regular summer days spent close to home.
