Ending the Year in Los Angeles, California
We flew into Los Angeles on the second to last day of the year. The view from the plane was classic LA sprawl, a grid stretching out towards the distant downtown skyline and mountains. The cloud cover started to break up as we descended, revealing the city below in patches of sunlight.
Our view for the trip was over a large marina, packed tight with boats of all sizes. The afternoon sun was low, creating a soft, hazy light over the water and the buildings on the far side. It was a calm and quiet scene, just the sheer number of masts and hulls filling the harbor.
After settling in, we went out for a meal. The weather was clear enough for a walk, past rows of tall palm trees standing against the modern architecture as the sun went down. It was good to just relax and grab some food before the end of the year.
The same marina looked completely different after dark. From our window, the harbor was transformed by thousands of lights from the boats and the surrounding apartments. It was a nice, peaceful way to see out the last night of 2023.
