Late May Stillness by the Mountain Lake

We spent the last few days of May up at the lake. It's that time of year when there's still a surprising amount of snow clinging to the mountains, even while it's warm and sunny by the shore. The sky was completely clear the entire time.

The most memorable thing about the weekend was the water. It was almost perfectly still, like glass, reflecting the mountains and the forest without a single ripple. You could see straight down to the rocks on the bottom near the shoreline. We didn't do much besides hang out by the water's edge and watch the light change. It’s not often you get to see it so calm for so long.

Our base was the family cabin, the little red A-frame with the green roof set back among the pine trees. It was just a quiet, regular weekend spent in a familiar place, watching the end of spring unfold in the mountains.
