Late October Days and a World Series Game

A couple of days at home in late October 2010. I spent some time down by the waterfront, where the sky was a flat, consistent grey over the bay. Palm trees lined the piers, and boats bobbed in the harbor with the Bay Bridge faint in the distance. It was just a normal, overcast afternoon.

At night, the whole scene transformed. The bridge lit up, its lights reflecting on the water, and the masts in the marina looked like a dense forest against the dark sky. There was a different energy in the city after dark, a definite buzz in the air.

The reason, of course, was the World Series. The Giants were playing the Rangers, and the entire Bay Area was focused on it. I took BART over to AT&T Park for Game 2. The stadium was lit up like a beacon against the night sky.

Inside, the atmosphere was electric. I found myself watching the giant scoreboard as much as the field, taking in the player stats and the roar of the crowd. It was one of those moments where it felt like the whole city was in one place. Just a couple of days at home, but memorable ones.
