Late September on Tahoe with the Dogs

Took the boat out with both dogs, probably one of the last runs before the season closes down. We put down towels in the bow and they claimed it immediately — the little one working her nose over everything, the aussie settling in against the blankets like she owns the seat.

Started off the beach among the moorings, then ran down the shore to Emerald Bay. Passed close by Fannette Island — you could see the old tea house up on the rock from the water. The haze got thicker the farther south we went; the far side of the bay went soft and gray behind it.

The dogs mostly just sat and watched the shoreline go by, ears up whenever another boat crossed our wake. On the way out of the bay the water behind the stern turned that deep blue it only holds out in the middle of the lake.
