Late Summer Days on the River in Cambridge

We spent the last week of August and the first few days of September in Cambridge. The first day or so was overcast, and we spent it walking through the city, looking at the imposing old college buildings. The scale of the architecture, like the chapel at King's College, feels different under a grey sky.

Then the weather turned, and the rest of the week was pure sun. The city's focus seemed to shift to the river. It was packed with people out on punts, drifting under the green willow trees. It felt like the definitive summer experience for this place, and we saw dozens of groups just enjoying the bright, warm days on the water.

We rented paddleboards and a kayak to get out on the river ourselves, exploring some of the quieter stretches away from the main cluster of colleges. We passed a pub with a thatched roof that was completely covered in flowers. It was a good trip, starting with stone architecture and ending in the sun on the green water.
