Deer and a Coyote at Coyote Moon
Played Coyote Moon today. Smoke was hanging over everything again — the sky went white before the trees ended, and the ridges you can usually see from the back nine just weren't there.
The deer didn't seem to mind. A whole group of them was grazing right on the fairway, four or five of them, heads down, completely uninterested in us. They drifted off toward the trees eventually but never actually hurried. Later we came across a few more standing under the pines at the edge of the rough, watching us go by.
Then, for once, the course lived up to its name — an actual coyote trotted across the fairway ahead of us. It didn't stop or look over, just crossed and kept going along the tree line. First time I've seen one out there.
The course itself was in good shape, greens still holding despite the dry hillsides everywhere going brown. Between the deer and the coyote it felt like we were the ones intruding.
