Late Summer Wildlife on a Tahoe Golf Course

A late August walk around one of the local golf courses near Tahoe. The sky had a hazy, smoky look to it, which was pretty typical for that time of year, but down on the ground, the fairways were intensely green against the tall pines.

The place is practically a wildlife sanctuary. I came across a whole herd of deer grazing peacefully along the edges of the fairway and on the small hills. They seemed completely at ease, taking advantage of the irrigated grass. A few looked up as I passed, but then went right back to their evening meal.

The course itself is beautiful, just carved right into the dense forest. Looking out from a higher point, you can see how the green fairways and sand traps are nestled among the trees.

Just before I left, a coyote made an appearance, trotting confidently across one of the greens in the late afternoon sun. It was moving with a purpose, cutting across the open space before disappearing back into the forest.
