Sunlight and Redwoods on a Mid-November Hike

A regular weekend at home this past mid-November. We decided to get out for a walk in one of the nearby redwood groves. The air was cool, but the sun was out, which makes all the difference when you're deep in the forest.

The light was the most noticeable thing. It came down in bright shafts between the massive, straight trunks of the redwoods, lighting up patches of undergrowth and the occasional smaller tree with yellow leaves. We spent a lot of time just looking straight up, trying to see the tops of the trees against the bright sky. It's hard to capture how tall they actually are.

The trail followed a small stream for a while, with a simple wooden fence running alongside it in some parts. It was quiet, just the usual forest sounds. We didn't go for miles, just a simple loop to be outside for a bit. It’s always good to disconnect and just walk among trees this old.
