A Few Days of Camping and Hiking in Mid-October
We spent a few days out in the woods last week, taking advantage of the clear weather. We found a familiar spot for the tents among the pines, with the ground already thick with fallen needles. The light was sharp and low in the mornings, cutting long shadows across the campsite as the sun cleared the trees.
Most of the days were spent hiking. We walked out to a nearby lake, which was completely still and deep blue under the high sun. The light coming down over the ridge was intense, making the surface of the water sparkle. It was quiet and calm, with just the granite and forest lining the shore.
On the way back, the trail cut through a few wide-open meadows. The grass was all gold and brown for the season, and a small creek was still making its way through the valley floor. It's a peaceful time of year up here, right before the seasons turn for good.
