A Jeep Evening at the Reservoir
It was a perfectly clear and warm Friday in Truckee, the kind of evening that feels wasted indoors. I took the top off the Jeep and headed out to one of the nearby reservoirs to catch the last of the light.
The shoreline was dry and dusty, a wide band of gravel exposed by the water level. I found a spot right by the edge, the big tires crunching on the loose rock. From here, the view opened up across the calm, dark blue water to the forested hills on the other side.
There was hardly any breeze. The air was still and warm as the sun sank lower, casting a strong golden light that made the dust from the drive hang in the air. The long shadows of the pines stretched across the dirt banks.
We just sat there for a while as the sun dipped behind the ridgeline, its final rays creating a bright starburst. It was completely quiet. A simple end to a day, close to home.
